First Baptist Church of Sanford, North Carolina, is hiring the position of Church Organist/Choir Accompanist. The successful candidate should have a heart for the Lord and a passion for worship through music.
The organist/accompanist will be responsible for playing two Sunday morning services (8:45 and 11:00) and a Wednesday night choir rehearsal (6:45). There will also be occasional extra practices and services, including Holy Week and Advent.
The music makeup of our church includes traditional hymns, choral literature, and contemporary worship songs arranged for congregational use. Most of the choral pieces will be accompanied on the piano or with both piano and organ, using a church member on the other instrument. The church does two cantatas a year, one during Advent, and the other in late spring, and the music minister hires a complete orchestra to perform them. The church also frequently uses string quartets and other musicians in their Sunday services.
The First Baptist sanctuary instruments are a three-manual Moller Pipe Organ, Opus 11695 and a Baldwin Grand Piano. The organ was refurbished in 2002 with Walker digital stops added. The chapel instruments are a two-manual Allen Digital Organ and a Schimmel Upright Piano.
First Baptist pays a salary of $30,000 and most years the staff receives cost of living raises.
While membership in the church would be preferable, it is not a requirement to be a member or a Baptist in order to hold the position.
If interested, please submit a letter telling us about your experiences in playing and/or a resume to:
